Back to School Message

Welcome back WV students and families. I hope this message finds you well rested and as ready as we are for the upcoming school year. Last week, our dedicated staff spent two days at the high school completing training focused around providing high quality instruction, assessment and intervention in order to ensure ALL WVHS students success in the classroom. We left the training very excited ready to work with our students.

This year, students and families alike will notice some very big changes. To begin with, our bell schedule has changed…quite drastically. WVHS will no longer be working with a “modified block” schedule and as such, students will have a six period day all week long. Additionally, in an effort to provide timely feedback and intervention, as well as enrichment and interest based activities, we are introducing “Eagle Time” into the schedule each Monday - Thursday. Students will learn more about this change in upcoming weeks. To view the complete bell schedule, click HERE. Additionally, the entire WVSD has moved late start days for students to Fridays. Staff will be actively engaging in collaboration around curriculum, assessment and instruction between 7:30-8:30am. 1st period will begin at 8:35 each and every Friday (this means no more wondering what time school starts, or if this is a late start day). Also, due to the staff collaboration, there will be no 0 or 7th hour classes held on Fridays.

Speaking of schedules, please read the note from your counselors below:

Dear WVHS students and families,

WVHS is updating our grading policy related to transfer grades, and Running Start and Skill Center grades.  If a student earns an A- while attending another school, or attends Running Start or the Skill Center, then the A- will be reflected on their transcript and calculated towards their GPA.

As a reminder, the last day to make schedule changes is on Wednesday, September 14th.  Please email your School Counselor if you would like to change your schedule:

Reghan Krestian (9th and 11th grade Counselor) - [email protected]

Kyle Bush (10th and 12th grade Counselor) - [email protected]

Katrina Finnegan (Special Education Counselor) - [email protected]

Again, thanks for choosing West Valley High School. We are excited to hit the ground running on September 7th.

Ryan Mulvey

West Valley High School Principal
