On October 1st, 2011, West Valley High School's “Class of 2017” was awarded a six-year GEAR UP grant by the Washington Student Achievement Council in Olympia, Washington. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a program designed to prepare students to enter and succeed in college. GEAR UP serves all 250 students currently enrolled in the 9th grade and will follow these students every year, until their high school graduation in 2017. The program provides an after school program, quarterly family nights, college campus visits, summer activities and much more.

There is no application for students to be a member of GEAR UP, the only qualification is that they are currently in the cohort's grade level.

Please contact Rosalie Sigler, GEAR UP Coordinator, at (509) 340-7103 or rosalie.sigler@wvsd.org with any questions
