Two West Valley Engineering/Manufacturing students, as part of a team from Spokane Valley Tech Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing program, presented a project at the Pacific Northwest Apprenticeship Conference. The project described the potential for use of Washington grown bio-diesel in the aviation industry. They also displayed and operated the wind tunnel they had constructed. The crowd was composed of educators, administrators, and apprenticeship program representatives. The kids were nervous but presented well.... Well enough to earn a $500.00 scholarship for EACH of them.
Your WVHS Band and Color Guard had a great time in California… they competed in the Heritage Music Festival in Fullerton with the following results:
Percussion Ensemble (1st Place – AA Division)
Wind Ensemble (2nd Place – AA Division)
Jazz Band (3rd Place – AA Division)
In addition, the Marching Band received a Silver Medal in the Disneyland Resort Parade and the Color Guard received a Bronze Medal.
Special congratulations to Kayla DeVleming, senior, who was the only recipient of the 2014 Disneyland “Standing Strong” Award, which was given out to a student who has persevered through many difficulties to become an outstanding musician and citizen. She was selected out of 1800 students who competed in the festival.
Congratulations to all of the Band and Color Guard students for a great job!
