A Letter from our Superintendent

Dear WV Families,

As we navigate this new normal of education from a distance, we want to assure you we are focused on your child’s educational success.  New guidelines from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) will frame our course of action going forward.  In addition, the Washington State Board of Education has released an amendment to state mandated requirements for grades, credits, and “seat time” hours.

We also want to assure you we are continuing our support services that so many students and families rely on. We continue to work hard on behalf of our students and our community.  Please visit our website www.wvsd.org and our social media sites for the latest news and updates, and watch for weekly email updates from your principal.

Grades & Credits: Given the current school closure, grades and credit accumulation will not be negatively impacted.  Please click here to see grading guidelines for the remainder of this school year.

Meals: Any child age 0-18, or who is currently enrolled in high school, can stop by one of our six Grab & Go distribution sites to pick up a breakfast and lunch pack Monday through Friday, 11:00 -1:00.  A list of participating schools with addresses can be found here. This program will continue through the summer.

Learning at home: The WVSD Home Learning Resources page contains information and resources for at home learning. On-line resources are updated weekly and also provided in packet form at Grab & Go lunch sites. Teachers are working hard to set up online platforms such as Google Classroom, Class DoJo, SeeSaw, and Bloomz to provide increased engagement opportunities for their students. Teachers will be providing learning resources using these online platforms as of Tuesday, April 21st. Please look for communication from your student’s teacher regarding how to connect.

ChromeBooks: Families who would like to check out a ChromeBook can contact our technology department at 509-344-1064 or email [email protected]If you already have a personal computer/laptop at home you can use this to access the Home Learning Resources; it is not required to use a ChromeBook.

Homeless support: Our HEART program is available to support families who are experiencing temporary housing, housing instability, or homelessness. Contact district liaison Tania Johnson at [email protected] or call 509-340-7267.

School playgrounds:
For your safety, all school play structures remain closed. While playfields and athletic fields are currently open, please practice social distancing and stay at least 6 feet away from others at all times.

How to help:
If you or your organization would like to support WVSD students, families or staff by donating resources or time, please call our district office at 509-924-2150 or email [email protected]

Questions? For questions related to homework assignments, please contact your student’s teacher. For assistance regarding school matters, contact your school office, or call the WVSD district office at 509-924-2150.

Please continue to do your part to practice social distancing and avoid all non-essential contact. Our goal continues to be to stop the transmission of COVID-19 and to keep everyone safe. We will get through this school closure the way West Valley always does, together!
