Grading Guidelines Revised

Last week the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) under the guidance of State Superintendent Chris Reykdal, released grading guidance/rules for ALL public schools in Washington State (linked here). This change forced our district to slightly alter our grading policy as well.

Students will still be strongly encouraged to work with their teachers to earn a letter grade in each class.  We firmly believe that by earning a letter grade, each and every student will have all future opportunities available to them. This will require students to log into their Google Classrooms and engage in the learning.  Students can expect to be introduced to 1-2 key concepts or learning targets each week and should expect to spend no more than 30 minutes daily on each of their classes. Again, this is the best option for ALL students and helps ensure that ALL doors are open to them in the future.

Additionally, due to unforeseen circumstances, on a case by case basis, students may earn an incomplete (inc) in a class. An Inc. would require the student to work with their teacher and/or possibly counselor the following school year to complete the class to earn a letter grade.  Although the Inc. may be an option, we do not fully know the ramifications of doing so and worry that it may have a negative effect on a students future goals, including college admissions, scholarships and more. If, at anytime prior to May 29th, you and your student would like to explore this option for one or more classes, please work directly with the individual teacher.
